I do not have an OS on my C drive which is 30GB in size. A lot of the space is taken up by backups. I wish to use some of the unused space to enlarge my D drive. Whilst looking at how much spare space I can afford to move, I found a file in the C:\Hyper folder entitled _rar_00.922 which is some 4.3GB in size.

I have used the forum search facility, using the name of the file, but come up with a blank.

Can someone tell me whether this is a normal HOS file or possibly a temporary file which can be (or should have been) deleted?

I would suggest this is related to the backups, possibly the auto backups. It's not part of the standard install so I'd be happy to say it can go.

Thank you Dave.

I have just (today) installed another internal Hard disk and changed a DVD drive which has been dodgy for some time, so will tread warily with this file for a while.

I have renamed it but left it where it is for the moment, until I can do some copying and cloning to the new drive to test HOS. HOS certainly switches between my various XP drives ok.

I'll come back here and add a few lines when I am sure things are still working as they should, in case somebody else comes up with this query.

Back again!

I renamed the file and left it where ir was. It's had no adverse effects as far as I'm aware so today I deleted it.

I'll only post here again if there is a problem.

Thanks again Dave - that was a nice saving of space.
